Bengaluru: Fined for improper mask, MLA approaches home minister

Bengaluru, Dec 25: Mudigere MLA, M PLKumaraswmay, who was fined Rs 250 by the police for the improper wearing of his mask, has complained to the home minister about the improper behaviour of the police.

The MLA said the Sheshadripuram police stopped his car on December 24 when he was going to the Legislators' Home in a rented car. "Because of the traffic block, the car stopped opposite Sheshadripuram station. The policeman asked me to lower the glass, saying that the glass had a tint. When I obliged, they fined me Rs 250 for not wearing the mask properly. Instead of talking to me normally, they were behaving arrogantly. As a responsible citizen, I remitted the fine, but the behaviour of the police left much to be desired," he said.

He said he would have paid the fine if they had just told him to. "Even after the driver told them that I am an MLA, the police continued to behave rudely. Therefore, I complained to the home minister," Kumaraswmy stated.

A senior police officer is looking into the complaint. Many people have supported the MLA, pointing out that the police keep waiting near the red signal and create traffic blocks in the guise of imposing fines. Many said that the police often say that the way the mask is worn is improper. Some said that the priority appears to be a collection of fine rather than acting against the spread of COVID.
