Udupi, Jun 3: Udupi Power Corporation Ltd (UPCL – erstwhile Nagarjuna), a thermal power plant set up at Nandikoor near Padubidri in the district, is all geared up to start supplying power generated by it to the state power grid from Thursday June 3.

It may be recalled that the formal commissioning of the plant was stalled at the last minute a few days back, after some technical problems were noticed. The experts of UPCL and those who have come from China have reportedly succeeded in fixing the problem.

In the meanwhile, the pipeline supplying saline water to the plant from the sea developed cracks near the national highway 17 at Yermal Tanka village on Wednesday night. The UPCL personnel rushed to the spot and closed the cracks in about half an hour.

In the meanwhile, the salt water fushing from the pipe entered the houses and backyards belonging to Padmanabha Acharya, Timmu Korageti and Somappa Belchada, located near the leakage spot.
