Mangalore: Policemen Arrest Man Accused of Marrying Minor

Mangalore, Jun 10: Based on a complaint received by them, the policemen of Suratkal station arrested Jagadish (23) from Kulai and a minor girl living with him, on the night of Tuesday June 8. The mother of the girl, residing in Preetinagar in Kulai, had alleged that Jagadish had abused her and then abducted her 17-year-old daughter.

The arrests were made from a house in Madya village near Suratkal. During interrogation, Jagadish reportedly told the policemen that he had accompanied the girl to Dharmasthala and then to Kateel temple, where he had married her.

The policemen have secured the judicial custody of the arrested man, on the charge of marrying a minor. As the girl insisted that she would continue to live with Jagadish, she has been sent to a counselling centre.
