Twitter bans US President Donald Trump, citing risk of incitement of violence

By Nikhila Natarajan

New York, Jan 9 (IANS): Social media giant Twitter announced that it is banning US President Donald Trump from its platform, citing "risk of further incitement of violence". The Twitter ban comes two days after a pro-Trump mob stormed the US Capitol, hoping to stop the certification of Joe Biden's election victory.

On Twitter, Donald Trump's handle is now an almost empty white canvas, frozen at 51 followed accounts, 88.7 million followers and two words on the center of the screen saying "Account suspended".

"After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them a" specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter a" we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence," Twitter said in a statement.

In an "overview", Twitter called out two of Trump tweets from January 8 and then went on to explain the context of the ban.

The first tweet: "The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!" The second tweet: "To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th."

Twitter explains that both these tweets need to be seen in the "context of broader events in the country and the ways in which the President's statements can be mobilized by different audiences, including to incite violence, as well as in the context of the pattern of behaviour from this account in recent weeks.a Twitter justified the Trump ban saying its language went against "our Glorification of Violence policy".

Twitter reportedly picked up chatter on its platform of another possible attack being planned on the Capitol later this month, days before Inauguration day on January 20.

Late January 6, Trump was locked out of his account for 12 hours after a violent mob loyal to him stormed the US Capitol to try to stop Congress from certifying President-elect Joe Biden's victory.

On the same afternoon, Trump posted a video on Twitter calling his supporters "very special" people. Five people, including a Capitol Police officer, are reported dead after the violence on January 6.

"Senior IT Expert at Global Defense Contractor Testifies in Italian Federal Court; He and Others Switched Votes throughout America in the U.S. Presidential Race

Rome, Italy (January 5, 2021) – An employee of the 8th largest global defense contractor, Leonardo SpA, provided a shocking deposition detailing his role in the most elaborate criminal act affecting a US election. Corroborating the DNI Ratcliff’s report of international intrusion, Arturo D’elio outlined the scheme that proved successful in using Leonardo computer systems and military satellites located in Pescara, Italy. Recent reports of a hack at Leonardo now appear to have been an orchestrated cover to mitigate blowback on the corporation which is partially owned by the Italian government.

Nations In Action, a government transparency organization, partnered with the Institute of Good Governance to thoroughly investigate and research the election irregularities which yielded the long awaited proof that a flawless plot to take down America was executed with extraordinary resources and global involvement. Americans and elected officials now have proof that the election was indeed stolen..."

Could our Media or of any other country have banned a President from expressing positively or negatively? We must see the message behind the Media Ban .... the true Democracy is the Pillar which does not succumb to political pressure as could be seen from what happened in Capitol Hill.

A pro-Trump mob stormed the US Capitol is extremely sad and serious. It may have far reaching consequences. Image all over the world has gone down badly.
Trump, from his off late actions seems, wants his WAYS TO PREVAIL, whether he is right or wrong.
No one can afford to be like that.
He seems quite hostile to immigrants, actually he too is an immigrant, his parents are from Germany.
If immigrants have built and prospered USA, how can he be so hostile to immigrants?
Off course some immigrants may be bad, for that he should have selective approach, shouldn't generalize everybody.

Trump got bad reputation propagated by Fake Media supporting the leftists.
He isn't against legal immigration, but illegal immigrants with open borders, would any country tolerate this when legal avenues are hoodwinked by criminals & terrorists to enter the country?
The leftist agenda FB as well as Twitter always supported city burning mobs without suspending their accounts but only censored Conservative as well as President's accounts which showed their clear bias, for this reason Trump wanted to end their immunity under section 230 which gave them protection from litigation if anybody posts anything on their platform. but when they resorted to biased censorship they don't become a platform but become publishers of that content making them liable for prosecution.
Antifa could infiltrate any group dressed as their supporters to tarnish their image like we have seen "tukde tukde gang" narrative created by our own fake media.
If Trump had won without democrats electoral fraud then they would have burnt the cities & establishments like they did during BLM protests sponsored by Democrats who provided funds & bailed them out when arrested & in the cities they controlled the police never took any action against them as they were scared of politicians who supported these violence for many days. The same we have seen when right wing thugs entered JNU & caused mayhem there & they went scot free despite police presence & later victims got chargesheeted despite video evidence pointing who were the perpetrators.

Dev, fully agree with your comment. Biden will be a puppet government and will do what the Corporate gang dictates him. Likewise, Modi Tiger of 56" has become a rat in the hands of under world Shah and Adani and Ambani. So, in both countries election has been hijacked and the world knows about it.

It happened during Hitler's time or that's how Hitler came to power. First control media and spread one sided propaganda or agenda. Seems communist Xí wants to become a new Hitler. Keeping president elect as figurehead and some indians may be temporary now for fooling the world (some may be left leaning one never knows) and then total communist control of US and the world. Also looks like media, high tech corporations already under his belt or communist management.
