Srinagar, Nov 8: Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district have arrested two persons after recovering arms and ammunition, including a Chinese pistol and two grenades, from their possession during a checking operation at Paniwah, officials said on Sunday.
According to police, the recovery was made during a naka (makeshift checkpost) set up by security forces in the area.
“A joint team of security personnel was conducting a naka at Paniwah when two persons coming from an orchard area towards Kulgam were intercepted,” officials said.

A search of the two suspects led to the recovery of one Chinese pistol, a magazine, two 9 mm rounds and two Chinese grenades.
“A case has been registered and further investigation is now going on,” officials added.
Meanwhile, security forces have intensified anti-terror and search operations across the Kashmir Valley and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir with the onset of winter. The drop in temperatures is expected to force terrorists hiding in higher reaches to move towards lower areas.
Authorities have put up wanted posters of key suspects in Srinagar and deployed joint teams of the Special Operations Group (SOG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police for intensified frisking, vehicle checks and highway surveillance.
Security forces are also hunting high-profile terrorists, including Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives in Anantnag and Kulgam.
Joint cordon-and-search operations and drone surveillance are being carried out in forested and upper reaches of Kishtwar’s Chatroo belt, Udhampur’s Basantgarh, Poonch and Rajouri. Security has also been stepped up along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
Senior military and police officials, including Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat and visiting defence commanders, have intensified coordination to dismantle over-ground worker and terror-financing networks.
