Karkala: River Shambhavi overflows due to rains, inundates dam

Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala (SP)

Karkala, Jan 9: Karkala taluk has been receiving heavy rainfall since the last few days. The farmers are caught unawares by the untimely rainfall while the rivers are breaching the dam levels. Vast stretches of agricultural fields on either side of the rivers have been inundated and the farmers are staring at huge losses.

River Shambhavi too is overflowing. Dams at Nitte, Bola, Sacheripet, Kadandale, Mundkoor and Sankalakaria have gone under water. In a few cases, planks inserted to block the outflow have been removed.

In spite of river flowing with full force, Sudhakar Salian, a farmer from Sankalakaria, has arranged to remove the wooden plank to allow the water to drain away.
