Udupi, Jan 9: 'KH LEARN', a continuous learning programme was organised at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal on January 9. KH Learn was inaugurated by Lt Gen ( Dr) M D Venkatesh, vice-chancellor of MAHE Manipal.

Dr PLNG Rao, pro-vice-chancellor (faculty of Health Sciences), MAHE, Manipal was the guest of honour at the programme. Dr Sharath K Rao, the dean of KMC, Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent, C G Muthana, chief operating officer of Kasturba Hospital, Dr Anil K Bhat and Dr Krishnananda Prabhu, Dr Padmaraj Hegde were present.

Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh in his inaugural address said, “Continuing medical education and upgrading medical knowledge is very important for all the practicing and teaching doctors. This is mandatory for every specialty, sub-specialty, super specialty, and also for administrative elements. In fact, in the entire field of medical education four important points are stressed, learning from teachers, self-learning, peer learning, and lifelong learning. This type of forum is important and useful for us to know what is new in other specialties and subspecialties and associated specialties."

Dr PLNG Rao said, “Knowledge doubles in less than three years. Nobody will be able to keep pace with what is happening all around. This learning programme is the right platform to share and learn from."

Dr Sharath K Rao gave an overview of the continuing learning programme, Dr Avinash Shetty welcomed the gathering and Dr Padmaraj Hegde proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Naveen Kumar A N, head of the department of surgical oncology gave a talk on rare surgery performed in his department. Dr Nikita was the master of ceremony for the programme.
