Mysuru, Jan 13: A pedestrian seemingly was killed by a vehicle in a hit and run case. However, verification of CCTV records revealed that it was a case of cold-blooded murder.
The CCTV images showed that an auto rickshaw driver rammed his vehicle into a pedestrian who was crossing the road night at a junction in the city. He came back again and his auto rickshaw once more rammed on the man who had fallen down on the road. The wheels of the three-wheeler moved over the skull of the person. The victim, Mallikarjun (40) was shifted by some passers-by to K R Hospital here. As he had severe head injuries, he was sent to NIMHANS Bengaluru where he breathed his last on January 12.
N R police here have registered a case of unnatural death. The police are trying to arrest the accused, who it is said has been identified.
The police said that the deceased was from Kajihundi village, Kollegal taluk, Chamarajanagar district. He used to operate a rented auto rickshaw. A couple of days back, he had fought with Sridhar, another auto driver. Mallikarjun did not have a place to stay here and moved from one place to the other. The police said that it was Sridhar who rammed his vehicle into Mallikarjun twice in succession. The police stated that there were passengers inside the auto when Sridhar knocked down Mallikarjun.
Mallikarjun's body was brought back here and kept in the mortuary of Mysore Medical College and Research Centre. The police are looking for Sridhar.
