Bengaluru, Jan 16: Primary and secondary education minister, S Suresh Kumar, has claimed in his Facebook post that the managements of private schools, which have been convinced of the situation in which the parents of students are facing financial crunch due to COVID19, have given their concurrence to reduce the fee.

"Representatives of Karnataka Association of School Managements, Karnataka Unaided Schools Managements Association, Recognized Unaided Private Schools Association, CBSE and ICSE school representatives participated in the meeting. Representatives of parent organizations were also present. After discussions lasting two and half hours, the school managements came out with the above decision," he stated.

The minister said that the representatives of school managements have brought to the notice of the government the fact that private schools are finding it impossible to pay salaries to the teachers. He added that a suitable decision will be taken on the issue after the commissioner of the department submits a full report to the principal secretary of the department.

In the meanwhile, Karnataka Private School Parents Association coordination committee approached the minister seeking to stop private schools from levying fees illegally on the students, and to refund the additional fee already collected to the parents. President of the committee, B S Yogananda, urged to continue with online classes. He said that private schools should not be allowed to reopen for children till the ninth standard till the school environments turn safe for the students.
