34,583 Covid warriors vaccinated in Karnataka


Bengaluru, Jan 21 (IANS): Around 55 percent or 34,583 healthcare warriors were vaccinated across Karnataka on the fifth day of the drive, said the state health bulletin on Wednesday.

"Of the 62,772 beneficiaries registered for the vaccine, 34,583 took the shot across the state, accounting for 55 percent of the target for the day," said the bulletin.

Chikkamagaluru registered the highest number (517) of receivers against 708 targetted beneficiaries, while Chitradurga had the lowest number (1,033) of receivers as against 3,632 targetted, accounting for 28 percent.

In Bengaluru, of the 7,420 warriors registered for the dose, 3,443 took the jab, accounting for 46 percent of the target.

Meanwhile, 501 new cases were registered on Tuesday, taking the state's Covid tally to 9,33,578, including 7,697 active cases, while recoveries rose to 9,13,677, with 665 discharged on Wednesday.

With only 4 succumbing to the infection, including 2 in Bengaluru and 1 each in Dakshina Kannada and Mandya districts, the state's death toll increased to 12,185 since the pandemic broke on March 8 last year.

Bengaluru reported 260 fresh cases on Wednesday, taking its Covid-19 tally to 3,95,769, including 5,136 active cases, while recoveries rose to 3,86,260, with 303 discharged in the last 24 hours.

Of the 168 patients in the intensive care units (ICUs) across the state, 74 are in Bengaluru hospitals, 12 in Mandya and 10 in Kalaburagi district.

Out of 84,090 tests conducted in the day, 7,448 were through rapid-antigen detection and 76,642 through the RT-PCR method.

"Positivity rate for the day was 0.59 percent and the case fatality rate was 0.79 percent across the southern state," added the bulletin.
