Bengaluru, Jan 25: Election for the post of the legislative council chairman of Karnataka has been announced. Now, there is curiosity about who will bag this post.

There is no clarity whether the BJP will field its candidate for the post of the deputy chairman. BJP leaders will meet to discuss in this on January 27.

It is learnt that JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda, has taken up with BJP national president J P Nadda seeking BJP's support for the candidature of senior legislator from his partiy, Basavaraj Horatti. Nadda has taken up the issue with BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel, it is said. Nalin reportedly has responded positively to this initiative. It is said that at the January 27 meeting, several BJP members have decided to press to exercise the party's right for the seat of the council chairman.

It is said that former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, met home and parliamentary affairs minister Basavaraj Bommai and requested him to support Horatti's candidature. Bommai suggested him to meet the chief minister and therefore, Kumaraswamy is likely to meet Yediyurappa before January 27.

If Horatti becomes the chairman of the legislative council, he will be the first JD(S) council chairman to be elected to the post. Chief whip of the legislative council, Mahantesh Kavatagimath, said that leaders of the party will discuss and decide on the posts to be shared and that the party legislators will be bound by the decision taken by the leaders.
