Kundapur, Jan 26: “The implementation of our constitution based on the prestige that we are Indians, fraternity and democracy is memorable,” said divisional officer K Raju.

He was speaking after hoisting the national flag to celebrate Republic day in the leadership of national festival celebration committee at Gandhi maidan.

“It is our responsibility to follow our proud constitution prepared by Dr B R Ambedkar keeping in mind the well-being of citizens as the priority. The response of people in the district during the Covid pandemic is a model for the country. It is inevitable to revive the business and economy that has collapsed during the pandemic. We have to make use of the natural beauty of the coast and improve tourism. The schemes of the government should reach even the last person in the society. We should show our dedication in them,” he said.

Municipal council president Veena Bhasker Mendon presided over the programme. Taluk panchayat vice president Ramkishan Hegde, council vice president Sandeep Kharvi, urban development authority president Vijay N Poojary, DySP Srikanth, Taluk health officer Dr Nagabhooshan Udupa, police circle inspector Gopikrishna, assistant director of agriculture Roopa G, block education officer Arun Kumar Shetty, municipal council chief officer Gopalakrishna Shetty, youth sports officer Kusumaker Shetty, former municipal council president P Gunarathan, Devaki P Sannayya and others were present.

Police, home guards and NCC battalion performed a march past in the leadership of Kundapur station SI Sadashiva Gavaroji. St Joseph higher primary school students played instrumental music. H M M English medium school music teacher Prakash Vaderahobali sang patriotic songs.

Floral tributes were offered to the portraits of Dr Ambedkar and Mahatma Gandhi. Taluk level paddy competition winner and Atma Yojane awardee farmer Mahalinga Devadiga Basrur, Singari Shedthi Harkur, Sheenappa Shetty Harkur, Balakrishnan Mudoor, Ramayya Shetty Kalthodu, Sujata Shetty Hallady-Harkady, Chandra Kharvi Paduvari and Shanker Nayak were felicitated.

Tahsildar Anandappa H Naika welcomed. Teacher Chandrashekar Beejadi compered the programme. Taluk panchayat executive officer Keshav Shettigar rendered vote of thanks.
