Udupi, Feb 17: A man is alleged to have waylaid a passenger bus and threaten people by claiming to be a police commissioner.

K Ramanath, resident of Tenkanidyoor was driving his KA 20 2 8707 bus with passengers from Udupi city bus stand to Malpe at about 7:50 pm on February 15. A car with the registration number HR-38-S-0320 stopped in front of the bus when the bus reached Malpe circle at 8:05 pm. The bus driver honked the horn so that the car could move once the passengers got down from the bus. However, when the bus reached in front of Malpe post office on the way to Vadabhandeshwara, the car driver overtook and waylaid the bus by parking his car in front of it.

Among three men who got down from the bus, one of the men hurled expletives in English at the car driver. Meanwhile, the locals also asked him to move his car. However, the car driver threatened the people by claiming to be a police commissioner. The word ‘police’ was found written on the front windshield of the car even though it was a private vehicle.

Malpe station police, who were alerted, came to the spot and verified his documents. He was not a government staff but had posed as a police commissioner in order to threaten and cheat the people.

A case under serial No. 17/2021 IPC sections 341, 416, 465, 468, 471, 504 and 34 is registered in Malpe police station in this connection.
