Udupi: Land scam victims protest in front of city development authority office

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (HB/EP)

Udupi, Feb 17: “Several people have bought sites with dreams but we are lost as we are unable to construct houses on them. There are violations of sections 14 and 21. We trusted the administration. But we are cheated. The land is registered, but it is reflected as though we have conducted violations,” said land scam victim Taranath Hegde.

He was speaking after participating in symbolic protests in front of the office of the city development authority on Tuesday. He said that none of them have bought the sites by wrongful means. “We decided to protest when we felt cheated. The additional deputy commissioner has also responded too lightly in this regard. The mistakes are committed by the document writer. Those who lost land should be provided justice,” he urged.

Dev Hanehalli, another protester said that it is not difficult for them to protest blocking the road. “We have not cheated anybody, we too can hurl stones but we will not stoop to such cruel level. The government should know that sincere citizens should not be harassed. We do not intend to sell the sites. Allow us to stay there in peace,” they urged.

Victims Robert D’Souza, Vasudev Gadiar, Melwin Rego, Sunder Shetty and others were present.
