Mangalore: Mulgeni Okkalu Rakshana Vedike Meet Seeks State Legislation

Mangalore, Jul 1: The Mulgeni Okkalu Rakshana Vedike convened a meeting of its members seeking state legislation abolishing the Mulgeni system of tenancy rights, at NGO Hall, taluk panchayat complex, on Sunday June 27.
 
Vedike legal advisor A P Gowrishanker explained the various steps taken by the Vedike that have resulted in a statement from the state home minister Dr V S Acharya, who promised to place the draft bill in favour of Mulgeni abolition in the coming session. 
Dakshina Kannada (DK) district-in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar addressed the gathering and promised to lend his full support when the bill comes up for discussion in the coming session as he understood the seriousness of the Mulgeni problem in the coastal districts of Karnataka.
 
Vedike secretary Joseph Saldanha briefed about the various developments that had taken place since the last meeting and urged co-operation from the members to realize their dream of abolition of the Mulgeni system in coastal Karnataka. 
 
Vedike president Maxim D’Silva welcomed the gathering while general secretary Ronald D’Silva proposed the vote of thanks. 
 
Joseph Martis, Jagdish Rao K, Yashodhar M K, Vishwanath Bolar, Dr Jayaram, Wilfred D’Souza, Eric Coelho, Ramananda Rao, Ramakrishna Rao, Isaac Rasquinha, B Seetharam, Vasudev A, Valerian Mascarenhas, Macklin Karkada, Lilly D’Souza, Gerald Tavers, Nanda Kishore Ullal, Simon Pinto, Gopalakrishna, and John Felix D’Souza were present.
 
Meanwhile, the gathering offered a minute’s silent prayers for the victims of the Air India Express crash of May 22.
 
A new committee was formed with the following members:
 
Maxim D’Silva (president), Jagdish Rao K (executive president), Joseph Martis, B Seetharam and Yashodar M K (vice-presidents), Ronald D’Silva (general secretary), Joseph Saldanha and Dr Jayaram M K (joint secretaries), Vishwanath Bolar (treasurer), A Vasudev, Valerian Mascarenhas, Isaac Rasquinha, Macklin Karkada, Vittal Bejai, Lilly D’Souza, Rama Devadiga and Dr Harish Shetty (joint secretaries), Gerald Tavers, Nanda Kishore Ullal, Wilfred D’Souza, Simon Pinto, Ramanand Rao, Eric Coelho, K Gopalakrishna, Deepak Kumar, John Felix D’Souza, K Divakar and H K Shenoy (executive committee members).

    A nice move by the MORK. This Mulgeni system should be banned completely as it is only in South Kanara and some remote parts of Kerala are only facing this problem. It will be a great relief to the people who are struggling for their rights since long time. With MORK all the best
