Karkala, Feb 20: In an incident that occurred in the taluk a woman conned Rs 30 lac from a youth on the pretext of providing relief from Kshudradosha. Loy Machado (36) of Miyaru Manjadka Mane is the victim of this incident.

Mudar resident Sunita Mendonca is the accused. She got acquainted with Loy Machado lamenting that her husband is employed abroad and that she is sick. Loy Machado who believed her had brought her and her children to his residence. She had gone abroad subsequent to it. The couple remained abroad for some time. Her husband who lost his job returned home. She too returned during the Corona crisis.

The wedding of Joy Machado, younger brother of Loy Machado was held in 2016. Sunita Mendonca had invited the house people for a dinner. Sunita during the wedding had said to Loy Machado that her sickness was cured saying that a Guru had treated her taking Rs 25,000 from her. Continuing the conversation she had said that there are effects of Naga Dosha, Stree Dosha and black magic at his residence. “I will set them right by speaking to the Guru,” she had assured. As she refused to provide contact details of the Guru, she had made Loy believe that problems will increase and prayers will yield no fruits, from it.

She had received huge amount in the guise of warding of ills. Sunita Mendonca who telephoned to Loy Machado had made him believe that his younger brother’s wife had done black magic on him and created a rift in the family. She urged for more money that she had to pay to the Guru. Loy Machado who was brainwashed by Sunita had paid Rs ten lac in stages including the wedding chain of his wife. When she continued to harass him for money, he had borrowed Rs 80,000 from his wife’s father, Rs one lac from his friends Rakesh and Victor, Rs 50,000 from his brother Paul Machado and another Rs one lac kept for his personal work. He had been duped of Rs 30 lac altogether. A case in this connection is registered at the town police station.
