Bantwal: Former minister Ramanath Rai inaugurates Kannada Bhavan

Bantwal, Feb 20: Former minister B Ramanath Rai inaugurated the programme of opening well equipped Kannada Bhavan on Saturday February 20. He said that the building has come up due to relentless efforts of Kannada Sahitya Parishad during the last twenty years.

He said that a three storied community hall and research centre being constructed at a cost of Rs eight crore has stopped half way. An Ambedkar Bhavan is being constructed at a cost of Rs eight crore in B C Road, he said.

Odiyoor temple seer Gurudevananda Swamiji who inaugurated the building said that the languages of Kannada and Tulu for the local people are like having two mothers. Tulu should be included in the eighth chapter and declared as state language and Yakshagana should be declared as state art, he said.

MLC Pratapsimha Nayak unveiled the picture of conference president.

Kemaru Shree said that Kannada and Tulu should be our breadth. Culture remains with language. The progress of the country gets curtailed due to friction for language. We should see God almighty in the poor, he said.

District Karnataka Sahitya Parishad president Pradeep Kalkura presided over the programme. He said that there is a need for Kannada Bhavan in every village.

Yakshagana artiste Govinda Bhat said that Yakshagana should find a place in Kannada Sahitya Parishad. Shringeri math seer Satyashanker Bollava set in motion the collection and exhibition of coins.

Trustee K Harikrishna Punaroor expressed anguish for the absence of Dr Manu Baligar for the programme. Local leaders were present.

A procession was held from Polali entrance on the national highway. Municipal council president Sharif set the procession in motion. Modankap church priest Fr Valerian D’Souza offered flowers. The procession was attractive with artistes in various attires and dolls.
