Puttur: Roof Collapse Kills Labourer, Injures Five

Puttur, Jul 1:
A building construction labourer died on the spot and five others were injured after the roof of a partially-constructed terrace house collapsed at Otettimar in Kuria village, near here, on Wednesday June 30.
 
The deceased labourer has been identified as 32-year-old Rafiq, a resident of Nekkilady, near Uppinangady. 

The injured are 55-year-old Babu, 40-year-old Dinesh Chowhan, 45-year-old Shekar, all residents of Nattibail, 20-year-old Krishnappa, a resident of Macchimale in Aryapu village, and 40-year-old Rajappa, a resident of Yenmady in Ilantila village of Beltangady taluk, were injured in the incident. 


 
Babu, who is in critical condition, was admitted to a hospital in Mangalore while the others are undergoing treatment at a private hospital here.
 
The construction work on extending the existing house of a certain Narayan Holla in Otettimar in Kuria was in progress when the tragedy occurred.
 
Rafiq died on the spot when the freshly laid concrete roof of the first story collapsed on him.  There were 11 labourers on the site when the tragedy occured.
 
Rafiq hailed from Otettimar in Kuria village and resided at Shantinagar.  He was working for contractor Narayan Naik, a resident of Macchimale in Aryapu village.

Rafiq is survived by his wife and a two-year-old daughter. Sampya police registered a case in this regard.
