Mangalore, Jul 2: The Lokayukta officials on Thursday July 1, caught Lakshminarayan, superintendent and Rama, a second division clerk, both working in the Suratkal sub office of the local city corporation, while accepting bribe in connection with the changing the Khata of some sites. The Lokayukta sleuths arrested both of them on Thursday afternoon.

Prabhananda Shenoy, a city-based tax consultant, had applied for the change of Khata of four sites, for which applications had been filed in the city corporation office. Shenoy reportedly was being harassed by the superintendent of Suratkal sub office of the corporation since the last seven to eight months, by unnecessarily delaying the said work. The official also is said to have promised Shenoy to get the needful done immediately, if the latter was prepared to pay him Rs 6,000.

Based on a complaint from Prabhanand Shenoy, the Lokayukta police laid a trap to nab the said officials. Lokayukta inspector, Uday Naik, said that both Lakshminarayan and Rama were arrested, as soon as they accepted Rs 2,500 from Shenoy and were placing the money so received in their table drawers. The said cash was also recovered from them.

I requested the Mangalore City Corporation office long back in November 2008 to demarcate the Road which was encroached by a builder in Ranga Pai layout in Bangra Kulur village in Malady Courts Road area. While registering the land to us in the year 1986 it was stated that the road will be 24 feet width shared by two sides @ 12 feet each. But the owner from other side has encroached the public road without providing sufficient land for public road. It was stated in the City Development Plan that the Road in the disputed place is width 24 feet. The Corporation Officials and MUDA Officials have misguided the public that the Road is 24 feet width. The CDP also confirms that the Road is 24 feet width. The Officials don't show much interest to provide justice to the common people since they are easy access to land grabbers.

Thanks Lokayukta team. Appreciate if you could also visit the Sales Tax office in Udupi. All the officials are bribe hungry there.

My sincere question - "IS LOKAYUKATA CLEAN ?". What is the guarantee that they will not take bribe from these corrupt officers ? For eye-washing they catch few and compromise with more.
