Bantwal: Veteran Kannada Poetess, Vagdevi, Dies During Pilgrimage

Bantwal, Jul 2: Veteran poetess, Vagdevi (70), wife of Nooji Subrahmanya Bhat from Vittal Mudnoor village, breathed her last due to cardiac arrest at Kedar in North India on June 29. She was on a pilgrimage-cum-tour of places located in northern states, in the company of her husband, daughter, and son-in-law. She is survived by husband, a son and five daughters.

Reports said, she had visited Badrinath along with her family, where she performed rites to pay obeisance to departed souls in the family. As soon as stepped down from the trolley while returning, she collapsed and lost her life.

Although Vagdevi did not study beyond eighth standard, she had lot of interest in literature. In addition to authoring hundreds of songs for children and a few anthologies, she had published collections of poems titled Jokali, Gurustudi and Havyakada Hanigo. She was adept at making handicrafts and home preparations. She was an active member of Vittal Havyaka Mahia Parishat. She used to spread the Havyaka ways of living through her poems.
