Udupi: Kasturba Hospital Manipal begins eye screening facility at RMCW Homes

Udupi, Feb 24: The department of community medicine along with the department of ophthalmology, Kasturba Hospital Manipal has started an eye screening facility at Manipal Rural Maternity and Child Welfare (RMCW) Homes.

To begin this facility, an inauguration program was organized on Tuesday, February 23 at the Rural Maternity and Child Welfare Center, Malpe.

Dr Sulatha V Bhandari, head of the department of ophthalmology, Kasturba Hospital inaugurated the facility and said, "We should not neglect eye problems and eye diseases and check-up should be done at regular interval. In this screening program, our doctors will do a complete eye check-up and will perform cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment, and other treatments free of cost jointly By Kasturba Hospital, Manipal and the District Blindness Control Society."

In her presidential address, Dr Suma Nair, head of the department of community medicine said, "The facility has been now started at Manipal Rural Maternity and Child Welfare (RMCW) Homes so that people can get an ophthalmic facility at their doorstep. The facility will be available at RMCW home Alevoor on the fourth Monday of every month, Malpe on the fourth Tuesday, Udyavar on the fourth Wednesday, Kaup on the fourth Thursday, and Kadekar on the fourth Friday of every month. Lions Club, Prakruthi Udupi, president Ln Sudhakar Shetty, secretary Ln Prashanth Shetty were present.
