Puttur, Jul 3: Anand Gowda (50), son of the late Odiyappa Gowda, a resident of Kerekody in Noojibaltila village near Kadaba in the taluk reportedly killed his younger brother, Purushottam Gowda (40), by hitting his head with a piece of wood. It is said that he then dumped the body in a tank located in the farm of the family, before surrendering to the policemen. The incident occurred on Friday July 2.

Anand, the villagers said, was frustrated to no end because of the harassment meted out by Purushottam, a mentally unsound person, not only to him, but also the family members and neighbourers. The deceased reportedly used to hurl obscene abuses at the people he came in contact with, since the last several years. Purushottam was married to Saroja from Konaje village about eight years ago, but she went back to her parental home along with her small child several years back, unable to bear her husband’s tortures.

Purushottam used to live separately but every day he had made it a practice to approach Anand Gowda and start a din. On Thursday, he had snatched away a hen belonging to his elder brother for food. On Friday, he assaulted Kusuma, wife of Anand, besides injuring her dog with a sickle, when Kusuma refused to give him a hen again. Anand Gowda, who had come back from the hospital after being down with Malaria on Thursday, was fed up with this unending ordeal. He hit his younger brother’s head with a club, threw his body in a tank, and then surrendered before the Kadaba policemen.

The policemen recovered the body from the tank, and registered a case of murder against Anand Gowda.
