Udupi, Jul 4: The National Highway, near Tenka Yermal has caved in exposing the vehicle users to grave danger.
The locals have alleged that the road damage has occurred due to the unscientific pipeline works carried out for Udupi Power Corporation Limited (UPCL), formerly known as Nagarjuna Power Corporation.
The heavy rains which lashed on the road on Saturday Jul 3 have left a deep hole on the road where the UPCL pipeline was being laid. Though the locals had raised their voice against the improper laying of pipeline works, niether the company officials nor the district administration heeded to their complaints.
The deep hole in the middle of the road caused lot of inconvenience to the movement of vehicles. The Highway department personnel’s have covered the hole with the mud and have given a temporary solution to the problem.
The locals hope that atleast now the district administration takes the issue seriously and come up with necessary action.

Sun, Jul 04 2010Being involved in design of cross country pipeline having travelled extensively along pipeline corridors in Saudi Arabia, I have never had such experience even in internal roads leave alone national highways or railways.
Soil here in Saudi Arabia is sandy or even subkha (marshy) still you dont encounter anything like this on Oil & Gas Pipelines crossings in here.
The incident reflect corruption by contractors and may be perilious in case of a rupture.
