Bantwal: Town Police Arrest Two for Theft of Areca Nut Stock

Bantwal, Jul 4: Policemen led by the town circle inspector arrested two people and unearthed a racket which involved theft of areca nut from many farmers’ households across the taluk.

The arrested are Satish, a resident of Kannur, and Hanif, an auto-rickshaw driver and resident of Mittoor. Both Satish and Hanif are thought to have stolen areca nut stock worth Rs 5.40 lac from Venkataramana Bhat, a progressive farmer residing at Idkidu village, in the limits of Vittal police station.

The accused were presented before a judge here on Saturday July 3 who remanded them to police custody.

The initial investigations revealed that Satish and Hanif were involved in many such crimes across the taluk. Further investigation into this case will reveal the names of their accomplices and details
of stockyards from where they stole huge stocks of areca nut.
