Mangaluru: Rare ventricular restoration surgery performed at K S Hegde Hospital

Mangaluru, Mar 13: The expert doctors of Dr K S Hegde Charitable Hospital, here, successfully performed rare and complex heart surgery.

A 56-year-old-patient residing at Haveri was suffering from severe breathing difficulties. The heart specialist doctors who examined him found serious heart issues in him. His heart was functioning only 20% which was much less than normal. Emergency surgery was essential to rectify the defect.

The team of heart surgeons Dr M Gopalakrishnan, Dr Naresh Chandra Hegde H and anaesthesia specialist doctor Dr Manjunath Karnad successfully performed the complex ventricular restoration surgery on the patient. Head of the intensive care unit Dr Naresh Rai and team joined them in the procedure. The patient has recovered from his illness and is discharged from the hospital.

“The surgery is being performed very rarely as 70% of its victims die. It is one of the few successful surgeries. The hospital has a team of heart specialists, heart surgeons, doctors of anesthesia, experienced nursing staff and other doctors,” said the medical superintendent of the hospital, Major Dr Shivakumar Hiremat in a press release.
