Mangalore, Jul 20: Incessant downpour continued to paralyze normal life in Karnataka coast. A few houses collapsed, while several others located in low-lying areas, faced the threat of getting inundated.

The house of Raju Ajalaya in Mukve, Narimogeru village near Puttur, crashed to the ground. No one was injured, as the family, getting scent of what was to come, got shifted to the house of Raju’s brother nearby in advance.  Kasargod district too has been experiencing copious rains. Arabian Sea has turned tumultuous, and places like Ullal, Sasihitlu etc., continue to face the threat of intensified sea erosion.  Sea erosion was also seen in Yermal Bada village in Udupi district. Crashing of sheds, compound walls, a few houses, and damages caused through fallen trees, apart from the problem of artificial floods, have been reported from various parts of the coast. Kodagu district also received very good rains, with Madikeri town having been enveloped by fog.

Bhatkal recorded highest of 13 cms of rain. On an average, most parts of the coast experienced between seven and eleven cms of rain. A release from the meteorological department has predicted heavy rains in the next two three days, warning the fishermen not to conduct fishing activities during this period, as winds are expected to blow at a speed of 45 to 55 knots per hour. The revenue officials are busy attending to rescue and relief operations.
