Mangalore: Bringing Konkani in to D Ed Important Step - DDPI Lobo

Mangalore, July 23: Eminent Educationist and DDPI (Development)  Philomena Lobo expressed her happiness about the efforts made by World Konkani Centre in the right direction towards introducing Konkani Language into education system of the state.

She was speaking after inaugurating a workshop for developing a broad outline of syllabus for the proposed Konkani subjects to be introduced into D Ed Course of Karnataka State at World Konkani Centre on riday July 23. "Availablity of properly qualified Konkani teachers will give better footage for
Konkani in schools. To achieve this Konkani should be made available in teacher training courses like D Ed and B Ed, she said. She also said that today’s parents are failing in their duty of transmitting the mothertongue to their next generation.

Sadananda Poonja, Language expert and lecturer in District Institute of Education Training, Mangalore delivered the keynote address on 'The structure of a language and the prescribed methodology of teaching in general'.

Speaking on the occassion, chief guests of the inaugural function Fr Wilson V D’Souza, secretary, Catholic Education Board, Mangalore and Dr U S Mohandas Nayak, president, Karnataka Konkani Linguistic Minority Educational Institutions Association assured their fullest support and co-operation for the implementation of the project from their institutions.

Konkani activist and educationist Dr Mohan Pai K gave a brief account of efforts of many organisations in bringing Konkani in to school curriculam of Karnataka state.

President of Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation, Basti Vaman Shenoy welcomed the participants, and reiterated foundation’s goal of taking Konkani language in to all levels of education system from kindergarten to postgraduation.

Project director Dr Devadas Pai gave a brief introducation about the project. Gurudath Bantwalkar, assistant director, World Institute of Konkani Language presented the vote of thanks.

Senior lecturers and language experts from District Institute of Education and Training, Government D Ed College Balmatta, Mangalore, St  Ann's College of Education, Capitanio D Ed College, Rosa Mystica D Ed. College, Kaikamba, Sahyadri Institute of Teacher’s Education and Canara High School participated in
the workshop as facilitators. In the  workshop experts will draw a draft syllabus for content based methodology of teaching Konkani and content enrichment course in Konkani in Diploma in Education Course of Karnataka State.
