Kundapur: Joseph Rebello - Fights Life 'Single Handedly'

Daijiworld Media Network – Kundapur (RD/SB)

Kundapur, Jul 29: Meet 47-year-old Joseph Rebello, a native of Vaderahobli residing on Nana Saheb Road, here, who has carved a modest life for his family with just one hand. With his life he has shown the world that one can make the best of adversity to make a decent living.

Rebello is the son of Philip and Fiad Rebello couple and made it to Gulf in 1992. He was employed as a driver in a Gulf country, when the tragedy struck. He lost his hand an electrical mishap while working in a building site. The tragedy shattered his dream of providing a decent living for his elderly parents, his wife and two children.

However, Joseph returned to his native in 1993 and slipped into depression over his physical disability for a while only to be motivated by his wife despite entire family found itself hard to
sustain their daily living. Mary ventured out of the house, in order to work as daily wager, as she had the greater responsibility to care for their two children. Her struggle for survival inspired hope in Joseph, to face the challenges of life with grit and confidence.

He contemplated on beginning a new life with just one hand. Soon he bought a second hand truck, but tragedy struck again, in the form of death of the cleaner employed by him in his truck. The tragedies that followed one after the other disheartened him totally. Yet again he recovered from major setbacks and determined to earn a living and support the family.

He began peddling bottles of disinfectant and snacks in a bicycle from a distributor and began earning commissions. With this income, he provided for the education of his children and meet daily expenses.

His son Melvin Rebello is studying in Class IX at St Mary’s High School, here, while his daughter Juliet Rebello is studying in II PUC at a nearby college.  Although, he needs huge sum of money to take care of the education of his children, he has never asked for help and earned himself.

‘When I was well-off, I was surrounded by many people, but now none as I hardly make ends meet. So far I have held onto my self-respect,’ says Joseph. He has carved out a living from his small earning, while Mary supplements the family income by working in a kitchen of mid-day free meal at nearby school.

    Dear Mr Mathew,
If any person has true sympathy for Mr.Joseph, and wish to help him truely, should help him financially for his immediate needs & commitments and arrange or organise something to generate a regular reasonable sum of income.Any extent of religious or soothing phrases will not serve the purpose of hungry, suffering of simple, humble & unfortunate person like Joseph.

It is a sad story to read, but
God can change the tragedy into
a comedy. We don't have answer
to many of our questions of life
when other people are faced with
    unexpected tragedies of life. But
many people faced the trgadies with
    courage and changed the course
of their lives for a far better
future. "Giving up" in life is
the worst tragedy and end of the
    long journey.

Mr. Joseph, now your story is read
by thousands of people across the world through the magnanimity of
    "Daijiworld" which is highly
    commendable. Some great miracle
    and supernatural detour will come
to pass in your life, then only
    you will understand, why the
tragedy took place in the first
place. Trust in God and do your
best, and the rest will be taken
care beyond your dreams. God may
richly bless you with His abundant peace, joy and strength.

In the US there is a saying, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going." Mr Joseph Rebello has proved his toughness by fighting against the odds to provide for himself and his family.

Guys, please refrain from making this website a charity website. By asking openly his bank account details you guys are hurting his selfrespect. Joseph Rebello's Contact number is given in the news clipping. Please take time to call him directly and see what he wants? Whether he is willing to accept financial help from us or not, check if he wants the help in someother ways.( Perhaps someone of us, as a good saritaritans, can take care of his children's education, perhaps someone can arrange to give Joseph some sort of work for a monthly salary) By just volunteering to help him , we might indirectly hurt his Self Respect. Please handle this carefully...A simple call and a conversation with him will help us to understand what he wants and how he would like to receive our help.

I am very proud of Joseph and especially his wife who stood by him in this irreparable disability. Joseph's case is a warning for us to live today and save for tomorrow. Nobody can guess what danger is lying ahead. Lavish spending and misuse of resources must be curtailed, health preserved by healthy eating.

Success and fame helps in bringing selfish friends who are just fiends. Its only the people that stay till the end who are real friends.
Joseph's stroy is a lesson for all of us who are surrounded today by such selfish friends that we philander everything we earn by throwing out lavish parties.

First of all, I compliment Daijiworld for bringing in such a worthy story that of Joseph Rebello, who is partially handicapped, due to some unfortunate event that took place during his work in the Gulf while he was working there, and presently struggling to earn his living and look after his family in his native place of Kundapur. Credit should also go to his devoted and herself hardworking wife Mary, who motivated him not to give up. I really am touched by this story. Keep going Joseph and I am sure you will succeed in your ventures, now that my best wishes and thousands of Daijiworld audience are with you.
