Kundapur: Basriberu Villagers Wait for Link with Outer World - Demand Bridge

Daijiworld Media Network – Kundapur (RD/SB)

Kundapur, Jul 31: The residents of Basriberu village near here are having horrific times as the bridge linking the village with the outer world has given in owing to incessant rains. It's terrifying to watch the villagers cross over latching on to the ropes of the hanging bridge.

Basriberu village lies on the foothills of Kodachadri and comes under the limits of Jadkal gram panchayat. The residents of the village now are forced to cross the river with surging waters with the collapse of the bridge. There are 150 houses in Basriberu with more than 500 persons of Marathi Naika community. Over 60 students from here too risk their lives to go to Madoor to attend schools. Further, following the collapse of bridge, the locals including elderly and students are now forced to spend their days indoors.

The people have no great demands, instead stress on the most essential bridge that can open them to the outside world. The villagers had urged the people’s representatives whenever they arrived seeking votes during elections. All the pleas of villagers for a linking bridge have remained unanswered.

Naxals Menace in Basriberu

Basriberu village was in news for Naxal menace in the past. The insurgencies of Naxals were first identified in Basriberu. The village becomes virtually an island especially during the monsoon, without any connectivity to the mainland. The dense forest around the village serves as a safe haven for Naxals. None of the governments has ever taken interest in providing basic amenities to the villagers.

I just wonder as to how the children, women, elderly people and sick people pass through this bridge. Congrats to the person/s who built this bridge, so that people could atleast come out and come in to this village. Broken bridge but see the cheerful spirit of the young people! Could someone give more details about this village, such as their houses, mode of living, agriculture etc.

Being the highest tax paying state in South India, villagers in our state still live in such a horrific condition. Crores of tax payer’s money is spent for the road which goes to CM’s private property in Rajmahal villas, with designers’ lamp post, wrought iron benches and sadhalli granite pavement. Let all the villagers buy a property for CM in their neighbourhood to improve the basic amenities of their village.

Mr. Madav Nayak, Udupi: I have read an an news with photo published in Daiji on June 28th regarding inauguration of a hanging bridge under Kukkehally gram Panchayat by Home Minister(HM) Mr. V. S. Acharya. During the inauguration speech HM said that State government is having plan to build 100 such hanging bridges to provide connectivity to such villages. Only 11 such bridges are already built, which means state government is having provision to build 89 more such bridges. Mr. Nayak as you are a local resident you could probably somehow inform Basriberu Village Panchayat regarding the above provision. Or may be Daiji also using their local connections can bring the above issue to the attention of V S Acharya. or if anyone know email address of V S Acharya we form gulf write to him.

I can't belive this. After many decades of independence and many heros ruled our states and they couldn't do such a small basic thing to the citizens. How can any one can say or sing " Mera Bharth mahan" or "Ondae Matharam" or "Janaganamana". I am thanking to Daijiworld bring up this issue and request to forward to the C.M. who wants to make Karnataka as a model state and P.M. to understand the reality of suffering brothers and sisters over there.

    Dear Mr. Yeddyrappa:

Please for heavens sake do the needful for these villagers without making any delays. They are really suffering and specially the students are held up at home and the elders too have no where to go. If 150 houses with over 500 persons including 60 students are isolated like this and no politicians have taken care for these villagers, I feel it is a shame. Please do this job immediately and start to work tomorrow itself for a temporary bridge and in the future build a strong concrete bridge to pass through atleast cars and small vehicles. Hope you will surely understand the dificulties of Basriberu Villagers. May God bless you.

    Pastor E. W. Frank
