Udupi, Aug 3: A health rejuvenation programme for the students was held at Government Girl’s Pre-University College, here on Tuesday August 3 in association with health and family welfare department, public instructions department and zilla panchayat.
The district-in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya inaugurated the health programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Acharya said that 87 lac students had undergone health check up during 2009, while this year the number is expected to increase to 1 crore students from Class 1 to Class X, who are studying in government, aided and private schools. The resident doctors of Primary Health Centers (PHC) will attend to the health of students in the schools in their locality. The parents are advised not to hide information of any known disease that their wards may be suffering from, said Dr Acharya.
Zilla panchayat president Gladys D’Almeida presided. MLA Raghupati Bhat, deputy commissioner P Hemalata, zilla panchayat CEO N Rajashekar, block education officer Dr B V Mahidas and district health officer Dr Ramachandra Bayiri were present.
Under the health rejuvenation programme, 1.68 lac students of 1,228 schools inclusive of government, aided and private will go through health check-up shortly.
Government Girl’s Pre-University College principal Suresh Tunga welcomed the gathering. Lecturer Nagaraj compered the programme.
