Mangalore/Udupi/Kasargod, Aug 15: The 64th Independence Day was celebrated with great patriotic enthusiasm all over the coastal districts. The worship places, schools, organizations, political parties and villagers all gathered to celebrate this great day.

I - Day at AIMIT, Mangalore
 
The first flag hoisting ceremony took place at AIMIT, the new campus for Management & Information Technology of St Aloysius College (autonomous) on Sunday August 15 at 8.45 am.

Dr Oswald Mascarenhas, chairman, MBA dept of AIMIT was the chief guest and hoisted the flag. Fr Denzil Lobo, director, AIMIT welcomed the students and faculty gathered for the ceremony.

Fr Oswald, in his Independence Day message spoke about the Freedom which we have obtained 63 years ago. It is a "freedom from" and also "freedom for"--to  serve the country and its people, he said. He mentioned the seven deadly sins enumerated by Gandhiji, "wealth without work, pleasure without conscience. Science with out humanity, politics without principle, commerce without morality and worship without sacrifice", and said that we should be inspired by the words of the Father of our Nation and try to do our utmost best to work for the prosperity of the country.
 
The function ended with the reading of the Prayer for India by Rabindranath Tagore.

The hostel girls, under the leadership of their warden, Sneha, faculty of the MBA section, got ready a rangoli to celebrate the Independence Day.

I - Day at Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte

Meanwhile, it was a day of double celebration for Catholics in India. India, our Motherland was freed from the clutches of the British and thus attained its political liberation.

Blessed Virgin Mary after completing her life on earth was assumed into Heaven body and soul. That’s the feast of the Assumption of Blessed Virgin Mary which Catholics commemorate todayall over the world. Faithful in great number participated in both these celebration held at Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte here.

After the Eucharist, all gathered near the flag post to honour the tri-colour which was hoisted by Mavis Rodrigues, proprietrix of YOUR FUTURE (a charitable institution).

Speaking on the occasion she recalled the valuable price our freedom fighters had to pay in order to liberate our Mother country. She appealed the gathering to work strenuously to realize the Swarajya or the Ideal State which our freedom fighters dreamt of.

District Congress I - Day Celebration

District Congress vice-president Kodijal Ibrahim hoisted the National Flag at the Independence Day celebration oraganized by district Congress.

North block Congress president Suresh Ballal, Congress leader K S Mohammad Masood, district Youth Congress general secretary Denis D'Silva, district Seva Dal president Suresh shetty, Sadashiva Amin, Santhosh Shetty and Sevadala leaders were present at the programme.

I - Day in Udupi

Kaup Hobli level Independence Day was celebrated by Rashtriya Habba Acharane Samiti at Bungalow Maidan here.

Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon hoisted the flag.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that through introduction and implementation of various projects, the state has been striving to by Kaup legislative assembly constituency a model in the state. A discussion with Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa has been held in this regard, he said.

Addressing the gathering, Vidayaniketan Group of Educational Institution, Kaup convenor K P Acharya said that youth are an integral part of the society. It is important that their talent is used in a right manner to fulfill the dream of Gandhiji's Rama Rajya, he said. 

Former serviceman Kutyar Bhoja Bhandary was felicitated on the occasion. The eligible were distributed various certificate sanctioning the benefits. The NCC, Seva Dal and Scouts and Guides students of Dandateertha Group of Institutions, Kaup, Mahadevi High School, Kaup Model Higher Primary School and Polipu Junior College among other institutes participated in teh attractive march past ceremony.

Meanwhile in another function, former advocate general of Rotary, Kaup B V Acharya was felicitated and Sri vasudeva Swami Bhajana Mandali members collected fund to aid Prabhakar Acharya, who is stricken by a disease and unwell instead of wastign their money to hold a grand I - Day celebration. Further, the Vidyaniketan School after hoisting the flag, held a anti-plastic drive to make the celebration more meaningful. The students cleansed the town off the plastic and also showcased play creating awareness on ill-effects of plastic.

I - Day at Machampady, Kasargod

Independence Day was celebrated by Machampady villagers under the auspices of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad memorial Arts and Sports Club.

Entrepreneur Mohammed hoisted the flag. Club president Asif Machampady welcomed the gathering.

Machampady Juma Masjid secretary Abdul rahiman Pavoor, club office-bearers Basheer Pallam, Farooque Pallam, Harris, Imtiaz and Fayaz, representatives of various organizations, Abdul rehman, U S Hasanabba, Ansar Kuwait, Faizal Pallam, Zubair Keri, Razique P H, farooque Mustafa, Umar Shafique and Abdul Gudde among others were present.

Meanwhile, Independence Day was celebrated at Yateem Khana, Manjeshwar here.

Balakrishna Shetty Master hoisted the flag. Aboobacker Tajha, M K Abdulla Haji, Priya Mohiuddin, B Ibrahim, Syed Haji and Moosa Kunhu Haji among others were present.
