Udupi, Jun 6: “The state government has made the poor and middle-class people struggle to obtain even a single meal a day due to the Corona lockdown,” said Karnataka Pradesh Congress committee panellist Veronica Cornelio.
“The state government should have provided at least grocery kits to such families. Its lack of concern is condemnable. The neighbouring Kerala state government worked in a responsible manner during both the lockdowns and distributed the kits. But the Karnataka state government has only provided ration rice. What will the poor do only with rice without other essential items? The government should look into the issues at least after this.
“The behaviour of the government by increasing the prices of petrol and diesel during the difficult time of the pandemic is condemnable. People working on daily wages own two-wheelers. They are facing problems due to the increase in petrol prices. It is shameful that the governments at the centre and the state are living on the amount looted as tax from the poor. It is not only filling its treasury but making private companies Reliance and Adani make more profit.
“Ordinary people can live properly if the governments reduce the prices of fuel instead of having a luxurious life. It should also stop increasing electricity charges,” she urged.
