Chikkamagaluru: Acid attack case - Four get life sentences

Chikkamagaluru, Jul 16: In connection with an incident in which acid was sprayed on a lady in Sringeri town in the year 2015, the court here has sentenced four accused to life term, holding them guilty of the offence.

Judge of the second additional district and sessions court, Manjunath Sangreshi, apart from awarding life imprisonment, also levied a fine of five lac rupees on each of them. The judgement was pronounced on Thursday July 15.

The judge, who heard arguments and also the defence lawyer's presentation, came to the conclusion that the charges levelled against the accused Ganesh, Kabir, Vinod Kumar and Abdul Majeed have been proved. Holding them guilty, he announced the quantum of sentence on July 15. The prosecution was represented in the case by public prosecutor, B S Mamata.

A divorcee was running a beauty parlour in Sringeri. On April 18, 2015, after her work hours, she was returning home located in Bharathi Nagar in Menase village when acid was sprayed on her face near the front gate of her house. It is said that the gang resorted to this act as a revenge as the lady had refused to marry accused, Ganesh, who was pestering her to marry him, but she had refused.
