Karwar: Businessmen promised of cheap gold, robbed of Rs 28 lac

Karwar. Jul 17: In an incident reported from Mundgod in Uttara Kannada district, unknown people who promised businessmen to sell gold at a discount, robbed them of Rs 28 lac near Malagi Dharma reservoir on Friday July 16.

Shivanagouda Patil land Aslam Nadaf from Girgaum in Chikkodi taluk lost their money due to their greed.

A gang had convinced them that they have struck gold and that they wanted to sell it. The gang promised to sell over 500 grams of gold and asked Patil to come near the reservoir. The two businessmen went there with Rs 28 lac in cash. As the gate near the reservoir was locked, they parked the car near the gate and walked over the embankment of the reservoir when two unknown people struck conversation with them and suddenly ran away after snatching away with bags containing cash. When they chased the robbers four others who were stationed in the field threw stones and wooden pieces at them and all the six fled thereafter, it is reported.

Deputy superintendent of police of Sirsi, Ravi Naik, exuded confidence of cracking the case soon and arresting the culprits. He said four police teams have been formed for the purpose.
