Mangaluru: Police suspect UP gang's involvement in thefts from parked cars in city

Mangaluru, Aug 8: The city police suspect that a gang of Uttar Pradesh origin is going rampant in the city, stealing valuables by breaking open the windows of parked cars.

Some days ago, a laptop, iPhone and other valuables were stolen by breaking open the rear window glass from a parked car at Urwa Store in the city. On the same day at around 1.15 pm Rs 40,000 cash and a bag containing documents was stolen by breaking open the window glass of a parked car at Light House Hill Road.

The police suspect that the notorious Oji Koppam gang of Uttar Pradesh is behind these acts. In the past, several members of this gang have been arrested in other parts of Karnataka.

In one more incident that occurred at Udupi, a laptop was stolen by breaking open the glass of a parked car. Chaithra Shetty, who works in a private company in Bengaluru, had arrived in Udupi after visiting temples at Kollur, Kateel and Mangaluru. She had gone to bring parcel food from the hotel after parking her car near Trends footwear shop in the City Centre. When she returned with the food parcels and checked, her laptop that was kept locked below the seat of her car was stolen by breaking open the rear window of the car.

A case in this connection has been registered in Udupi police station.
