Miscreants bury around 150 dogs alive in Shivamogga

Shivamogga, Sep 8 (IANS): In a shocking incident, some miscreants allegedly buried around 150 dogs alive in the Shivamogga district of Karnataka, police sources said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in Ranganathapura within the limits of Kambadaalalu-Hosur gram panchayat near Bhadravathi town. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the incident took place on September 4.

The miscreants allegedly buried the dogs in the Tammadihalli forest area. The locals who heard the barking of dogs constantly became suspicious when suddenly the sounds stopped coming.

The locals informed animal rights activists but the incident came to light only when the activists visited the spot. The case has been taken up by the Bhadravathi Rural police station but the reason behind the incident is yet to be ascertained.

A preliminary inquiry suggested that the contractor, who had taken up the tender for neutering (a surgical procedure that renders dogs incapable of reproducing) canines committed this act to save money.

Police sources said the panchayat authorities had given oral instructions to dog catchers in this regard this time. Earlier, the dogs were picked up and left in distant isolated areas. This time the police suspect that they caught the dogs within the limits of Kambadaalalu-Hosur gram panchayat and buried them alive.

Earlier, 38 monkeys were found dead at a village in Karnataka's Hassan district. They were being shifted to a forest area in gunny bags when they suffocated to death in August. The Karnataka High Court took immediate notice of the incident and directed the state government to take action against the culprits. The police have arrested seven persons so far.

@ sanjay pinto, manglaore The next time you think of taking a morning walk, pick up a few packs of biscuits instead of stones. Feed them just once. From then on they will never bother you. It works. Try it.

street dogs are a menace to people..especially those who venture out early in the morning for walks as well as milk vendors..they should be culled or at least their breed should be reduced or they should be kept off city limits..may be the great BJP can think of Shwana Shala like they have done Gau shala.. if that is not done the only option left with public is to kill them in this manner or to maim them..many dogs are limping in the city as people beat them with sticks.. cannot help as I am a early walker I also sometimes hit stones at them

Sanjay Pinto, I think early walkers are a menace to society. They should be culled or treated just like the dogs were treated in this news article.

Sanjay Pinto, Dogs are on the streets throughout the day not just in the mornings. Neutering the dogs is a good solution and burying them alive is inhumane. But that is outside of your realm of understanding. You probably grew up in an environment that supported cruelty and activities of this kind. I do enjoy sur soro and dukramaas.. it's the best. I can educate you further on what this real meaning behind this news article is but I'm fairly sure you wouldn't understand because you're stuck in your old ways. Also if a dog attacks you in the morning please send us a video. I would love to watch it after 10 AM

What goes around comes around. You hit them and that is why they do bark at you. Have you ever tried making friends with them. Try once and you will have a peaceful walk. I am a early Walker with my 2dogs. And all the dogs on our way are our friends. You don't have to feed them. Just show some love and see how they behave the next day. The city and is earth is not yours alone. They too have same rights to live in.

i wish all those and their family members in this comment section, who are saying that there is no problem with the street dogs should end up being bitten by them. Would like to know their comment after that.. very easy to say from inside the house..just day before yesterday morning one bike fellow got scared as the dog chased him and he fell down..fortunately i went and helped him and he did not get hurt..but he chased the dog and gave it nicely with stones..

R u for real? Have u been to school? or atleast are you literate? have you heard about Coexistence. These animals are not miscreants or curse to the society, but cruel people like u r. I have been, all my life, early bird. early morning walk at around 5 am is regular practice in our family. I have never felt unsafe around Dogs. they have been very protective when it comes to loving & caring people. if dogs are attacking you, u really have to introspect, there is something definitely wrong with you, which everyone here can see, reflecting cruel, irrational and nonsense personality. Pls understand its not about dogs or any other animal, its about these cruel people who buried dogs alive. These kind of antisocial element always are in search of weak targets, it could be dogs / kids/ women or anyone who is weak. So ultimately, you are encouraging such elements, shows your antisocial personality as well.

i have one simple question for you..some time ago a baby was bitten by street dogs and it died..they were street urchins..so why the dogs did that? any answer..the point I am making is that street is not the place for dogs..dogs should be at home...i have lived in gulf for 15 years..you cannot see a single street dog...so come out of the illusion..you must be an affluent person living in posh area where there are no street dogs and just commenting for the sake of it

Sanjay Pinto, You living in gulf for 15 years is like taking a horse to the water. You will not get educated by living in another country for 15 years. You support the idea of burying dogs alive. There are other ways of solving the street dogs menace. Neutering them, sheltering them, adopting them, and training them are some solutions. These dogs were being taken to be neutered and they were picked up from people's houses not the streets. You will only start seeing these things if you start treating animals like a living being. If you have kids in your family who are a menace, should they be buried alive ? Have some compassion towards animals. Drink some sur, soro and think about it.

"Earlier panchayat authorities had.....dogs were picked up and left in distant isolated places". This shows that Panchayat people are in hand in glove with the contractor meant fir neutering the dogs and it is illegal to displace them from their place. Take leagal action against Panchayat officials and book them under the law.

But blind bhakths of BD and VHP have exact knowledge and location of people who wrote graffiti in Mangalore and whichever corner of the country love-Jihad is going on and cow slaughter and beef is sold and consumed and religious conversions are going on. They even stop the bus in remote places if two consenting couples of different faith travel together. The local govt municipalities should take care of this public nuisance and menace but it’s BJP municipality.
