Beltangady, Oct 9: In a gory incident which happened in Karimanelu village near Venoor, a man killed his maternal uncle by indiscriminately hitting him repeatedly with a sickle. The murder came to light on Friday October 8 morning

The victim of the incident was Sanjeeva Shetty (65), a resident of Nooyi in Karimanelu village. The accused, Shreesha Shetty (30) from Nooyi, Karimanelu, was taken into custody by the Venoor police personnel from Mundaje.

The deceased had married twice. His first wife had died and is survived by a son and two daughters. His second wife is mother to a son and a daughter. All the three of his daughters are married, and sons live separately. The second wife of Sanjeeva Shetty has separated from her husband and lives with her son. Sanjeeva Shetty who lived alone, worked as a coolie.

Shreesha Shetty is the son of Sanjeeva's sister. He is unmarried, and is addicted to liquor, it is gathered. His parents had died some years back. He had driven away his only brother and lived alone in his house. It is said that he often fought with Sanjeeva Shetty on the issue of landed property. On Thursday night too he visited Sanjeeva Shetty and quarrelled with him on property dispute. During the course of arguments, in a fit of range, he picked up a sickle found in the house and hit Sanjeeva in the head and neck regions which caused his death.

As Sanjeeva failed to visit a house where he regularly went to work, the family members came looking for him and found his body lying in a pool of blood. The arrested accused was produced in the court. Assistant superintendent of police Shivanshu Rajput, circle inspector Shivakumar B, and other staff visited the spot. Finger print experts too arrived and gathered information.
