Kundapur: Gopal Kharvi selected for national level swimming competitions

Kundapur, Oct 11: Kundmi, Udupi resident Gopal Kharvi Kodi Kanyan who represented Udupi district in 22nd state level swimming competitions conducted by Karnataka state swimming association has bagged gold medals in 100 metres freestyle, 200 metres freestyle, 4 x 50 metres freestyle relay and 4 x 50 metres medley relay swimming. He has also received silver medal in 100 metres butterfly, bronze medal in 50 metres freestyle and has been selected for national level swimming competitions.

He is the trainer of Udupi Ajjarkad swimming pool.

He had created the Guinness world record for swimming for 3.71 kilometres after getting his hands and legs tied while swimming in 2013. He has received Karnataka Rajyotsava award, Karnataka Kreedarathna award, Sandesha award and several other awards. There is a lesson about his life in the Konkani text book for ninth standard of the Karnataka state.
