Udupi, Oct 12: International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated on October 11 and is dedicated to the growth of girls around the world. International Day of The Girl Child 2021: The theme this year is 'Digital generation. Our generation.'

On this occasion at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal celebrated International Day of the Girl Child by honouring the new-born girl children in the Kasturba Hospital on October 11. Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent honoured new-born girl child and said, the reason behind the celebration of International Day of the Girl Child is to give proper education, healthcare, learning, and equal opportunities to young girls and women.

They should be safe from gender-biased violence and discrimination. Women and girls represent half of the world’s population and it is crucial to accelerate their development.
