Bengaluru: Theatre personality, author, actor Prof G K Govinda Rao passes away

Bengaluru, Oct 15: Rationalist, writer and actor, Prof G K Govinda Rao, passed away on Friday October 15 morning. His end came at the residence of his daughter at Hubballi. He was 86.

Born on April 27, 1937 in the city, Prof Rao had studied English literature and was an English professor.

Prof Rao was active in theatre and cinema sectors. He used to have his own views on current democratic movements. His association with the theatre was of over 50 years. He used to be sympathetic towards the naxal movement and had led an organization of teachers.

He authored short stories, plays and critical analysis. On different occasions, he had criticized Pejawar Sri Vishweshwara Theertha Swamiji, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and S L Bhyrappa for their views on certain issues. His acting in the film, Grahana, and television series, Maha Parva and Malgudi Days had come in for critical appreciation.
