Moodbidri, Oct 31: The seventh edition of ‘Alva's Nudisiri,’ the three-day national-level cultural extravaganza, concluded on a high note here on Sunday October 31.

Alva's Nudisiri Awards were conferred on Dr G S Amoora, union law minister M Veerappa Moily, Dr M M Kalaburgi, Dr Shimoga Subbanna, Dr M Leelavati, Dr B K Basavaraj Rajarushi, Dr Balipa Narayan Bhagavat, Santhosh Kumar Gulvady, Professor B Jayaprakash Gowda and Dr K P Putturaya for their contributions by Dr M Mohan Alva and Vaidehi, chairperson of Alva's Nudisiri.

“The happiness of the people is an eternal reward. Dr M Mohan Alva has been organizing Alva's Nudisiri for all these years and this will fetch him rich rewards. Dr Alva has indeed shown the way to heaven through his noble deeds,” said Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, speaking at the valedictory ceremony on Sunday evening.

Speaking on the occasion, Vaidehi said that the felicitated veterans are the torch-bearers of the state who spread the fragrance of Kannada culture and traditions.

A few excerpts from the seminars

“Poetry depicts penance and knowledge,” said Arundhati Ramesh during the seminar session on the last day of Alva's Nudisiri on Sunday. Ganapathi Bhat moderated the seminar. The audience was enthralled with the melodious singing of Vasudha K, directed by musician M S Giridar.

“The media which is at the disposal of the society is a powerful tool. Advertisements create illusions. The media exists due to advertisements. Peace and happiness is more important than the comforts and luxuries of life,” said T N Sitaram in his talk on 'Future and Human Values in Media.'

“Both the poet and the reader ought to be careful in interpreting the message. Life is a journey from cradle to grave. It’s a continuing process. We usually plan the future without focusing on the present. The future has aspects of religion while literature will have many aspects inclusive in it,” said litterateur S R Vijayashanker in his talk on ‘Future and Human Values in Literary Works’. O N Kandige moderated the seminar.

“A Kannada play by veteran playwright Da Ra Bendre was staged on an evening at National College, Basavanagudi in Bangalore. A beautiful young girl was the lead in it. After the play ended, the audience was talking about the beauty of that girl. The audience finally realized that the girl who played the role was in fact none other than Sampat Kumar Vishnuvardan,” said Narasimhamurti in his memoirs of the late Sandalwood actor Vishnuvardan. Alva's College head of admissions L J Fernandes moderated the programme.

“My birth place of Barkoor in Udupi district inspired me to author stories. I wrote mainly about the atrocities that plague the Muslim community. I explored why the Muslim community has been branded as that of terrorists. It was mainly because the other communities in society have made little efforts to understand the Muslim community,” said story writer Fakir Mohammed.

“The state is rich in biodiversity and natural resources lying across the west coast to the capital Bangalore. The Western Ghats is one of the few hot spots of biodiversity in the world,” said veteran environmentalist and journalist Nagesh Hegde, while delivering a talk on the state’s forest wealth and environment.

Hegde urged the biotechnology students of our country to serve their homeland instead of working with multi-national companies abroad. Satyanarayam Mallipatna moderated the programme.

‘Nenapinangaladalli Karantaru,' a composition by Karunakar Balkoor, and ‘Chidambara Koota' by K M Gupta were released by chairperson Vaidehi in the presence of Dr Mohan Alva.

The moderator for the seminar was not O N Khandige, his name is T A N Khandige. Please correct it. Mr Khandige writes the Yakshagana style thanks giving poem every year that gets sung at the end of the inauguration function.
