Bengaluru, Nov 2: Large and Medium Industries Minister Murugesh R Nirani has decided to stay overnight on November 11 in the Gadikeshwar village of Chincholli taluk, which suffered to earthquake recently in Kalaburgi district along with elected representatives of the district.

The minister, who held an industrial adalat and meetings on ‘become an entrepreneur, give jobs’, vision 2050 and preliminary meeting of the quarterly Karnataka Development Council in the Deputy Commissioner’s office, also held discussions with the elected representatives on the question of overnight stay at Gadikeshwar village.

Nirani said he will hear grievances and complaints from the local people from the village and directed Chincholli Tahsildar Anjum Tabassum to make all arrangements for the overnight stay.

Kalaburgi Deputy Commissioner V V Jyothsna informed the minister that earthquake tremors were regularly being heard in some of the villages of Chincholli and Kalagi taluks of the district during the last two decades. But the tremors in Gadikeshwar village in the month of October were more intense and continuous creating panic among the local people.

The Deputy Commissioner said the district administration and the government must take steps to instil confidence among the villages who were panic-stricken due to the earthquake tremors.

A seismometer has been established by seismologists from Hyderabad in the village. Even though the intensity of the tremors ranged from 1 to 4 on the rector scale, there was no serious damage to houses barring cracks in some houses. As many as 20 villages are affected and common community sheds have been established in five villages and arrangements for supplying food have been taken, she said pointing out that scientists have assured that there was cause for fear as the area was full of lime stones.

Chincholli MLA DR Avinash Jadav said the tremors were heard in a radius of about 60 kms around Gadikeshwar village and emphasised the need for creating relief centres and shelters near their houses. The government must respond to the demand positively, he said.

Minister Nirani said a workshop on ‘Be an entrepreneur, become job provider’ and Kaigarika Adalat has been planned on November 11 at the ESIC Auditorium.

District Industries Centre Joint Director Manikrao Raghoji spoke about the arrangements made for the events.
