Belagavi, Dec 14: PWD minister C C Patil said that a proposal to repair and undertake safety measures along the ghat roads passing through the Western Ghats has been sent to the central government for approval. He said that the repair works will be undertaken as soon as the approval is received.

He was replying to a question raised by BJP MLA Umanath Kotian, at the assembly session. He said that highways pass through regions like Shiradi, Charmadi, Sampaje, Arabail, Agumbe, Mala, Kollur, Nagodi, Tain, Devimane, Anasi, Kaiga, Vaddi Dodmane, Mensi, Chorla, Balebare and Bisile ghat of the western ghats.He said that on account of unexpectedly heavy rain in 2018-19, landslides had happened in 26 gorges of the ghats and road development and maintenance with the help of micro filling soil nailing technology will be undertaken.

Kotian had drawn the attention of the minister to the fact that the roads had lost their carrying capacity at eight ghat section roads of the Western Ghats. He had asked to use the technology which is used in Himalayan region in Western Ghats and develop the region.
