Bengaluru, Dec 28: Hotel industry in the state is virtually in doldrums due to the night curfew that is beginning from December 28 throughout Karnataka. Hundreds of crores of rupees are lost to the industry, which banks on the year end celebrations for revenue.

Around 65 to 70 percent booking were done in most of the five star hotels and restaurants. However, as the night curfew order is taken out by the government, customers are cancelling their bookings. Hotel owners suffered losses last year also due to Covid.

Madhukar Shetty, secretary of Karnataka State Hotels’ Association, said, “Tables and rooms were booked in resorts and five star hotels at many places in the state including Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Mysuru, Hampi, Ballari and Shivamogga. However, as the ruling BJP government ordered restrictions of 50% seating capacity and night curfew, the customers are cancelling the bookings.”

P C Rao, president of Bengaluru Hotel Owners’ Association said that the industry will suffer losses to the tune of Rs 500 crore due to night curfew.
