Udupi, Dec 27: The people of Brahmavar region could not have asked for a more entertaining and grand Christmas evening than what they had on December 25, 2010 at the Makkala Mantapa. It was as if Papa Santa had delivered a memorable and perfect gift in the form of gala entertainment bash Sargam-2010. SEVA, which is fast becoming as one of the premier organizations of the region, in association with www.brahmavara.com, once again presented a magnificent and spectacular programme much to the applause and appreciation of the supportive audience.

The much-awaited evening began with the prayer dance by young and charming Swapna Gonsalves. It was a perfect and auspicious beginning and set the stage for Prakash Mahadevan and his troupe to unleash superb performance. Soon after the prayer dance, it was Prakash Mahadevan, a versatile singer who has carved a niche for himself with consistent and rocking performance all across in the last few years who took the stage by storm with soulful rendition of hit Kannada number ‘Nee Sanihake Bandare’ from the movie ‘Malleyali Joteyali’, originally sung by none other than Sonu Nigam. The audience who had by then gathered in good number had been offered a perfect glimpse to what was to follow later. Following Prakash was young Prajoth D’Sa, an up and coming singer from Kallianpur. It was his maiden stage performance and as expected his rendition of ‘Pee Loon’, Mohit Chauhan’s solo number from popular Hindi movie ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbai’ was the highlight of the evening. He received a thunderous applause from the audience. He has long way to go but he is well on his way to be the next star of the region.

After the two hit songs, it was time for the grand entry Ocean Kids, a dance troupe which had bowled over Brahmavarites by their scintillating performance at SEVA’s first programme Darbar at the same venue about a year ago. Even when the audience were still admiring the performance of Ocean Kids’ elegant dancers, entered the son-of-the-soil Vinay Lewis, the first-ever Gulf Voice of Mangalore winner who had dished out a spectacular performance at Darbar. His melodios singing of Konkani song ‘Haanv Mog Kartam’ again proved that he is one best Konkani singers at present.

As the evening peaked, the performances too reached crescendo with Prakash again coming up with melodious hit number ‘Nadedaduva Kamanabillu’ originally sung by KK for the Kannada movie ‘Parichaya’.  With the crowd too supporting the entertainers, Jyotsna and Sandesh, two young artistes who are well-known in the region with some stunning performances in the past at ‘Music Masti’ presented one of the greatest hits of the year ‘Zoobie Doobie’ from the highest-grossing Bollywood movie ‘3 Idiots. The dancing number brought the audience on their feet before Prakash and his talent life partner Roopa presented super hit Tamil duet ‘Vaada Maapillai’ prompting the young boys and girls to storm to the dance floor. This song has a great fan-following and wherever and whenever it has been presented, it just captures the audience.

With the music and dance reaching its peak, it was time for the talented actors of ‘The Expressions’ to inject dose of comedy to the huge crowd with their rib-tickling humour. It was perfect blend of timing, precision and creativity of The Expressions that kept the audience glued to their seats in good humour.

The second part of the evening marked the entry of newest Konkani singing star Gladys Lorena, the reigning Gulf Voice of Mangalore. Her solo number ‘Hero Mujho Hero’ proved that her GOVM performance was not just a flash in the pan but she is here to stay. Gladys’ true natural and melodious voice has already captured the Konkani music world and days are not far when she will be one of the premier female singers.

But the real star of the evening was ‘Kenny’ the darling of Mangalorean and Goan Konkani music buffs.  He is known for his captivating female roles and songs and true to his billing he had the audience asking for more as he belted out some of the hit songs such as ‘Flory’, ‘Bombil Mary’ and ‘Thaka Thaka Doom’ which have been synonymous with him over the years. It was his first-ever performance in the region and he won hundreds of hearts with enchanting performances.

The evening also had some more melodious and foot-tapping numbers such as ‘Waka Waka’ and ‘Ringa Ringa’ by Jyotsna, ‘Tera Hone Laga Hoon’, ‘Aila Re Aila’, ‘Parda’ by Prakash and Roopa and ‘Shiva’ by Sandesh and Prakash, ‘Aap Ka Kya’ by Sandesh and Jyotsna and ‘Munni Badnam Hui’, the blockbuster Hindi number of ‘Dabaang by Roopa Mahadevan.
