Mangaluru: Robbery, murder attempt on auto rickshaw driver - Three held

Mangaluru, Feb 9: Three persons who had escaped after attempting robbery and murder of an auto rickshaw driver at Bajpe were arrested by the Bajpe police on Monday. The three arrested accused were produced in the court on the same day.

The court remanded them to judicial custody. The arrested accused are Prajwal Poojary (19) from Ulaibettu, Vinyas (19), a resident of Bajpe-Kolambe Sauharda Nagar, and Shekhar (23) from Kenjar. During the questioning, the polcie came to know that they attacked the said auto driver with the specific purpose of robbing money and gold chain from him.

The trio had hired the auto rickshaw of Bhoja Bangera Adyapady from the Bajpe auto rickshaw park on February 2. After reaching Kenjar, they had advised the driver to go near the land adjacent to the Maravoor cattle shelter where they had reportedly held his neck and tried to kill him. When they tried to yank away the chain, Bhoja suffered injuries to his neck. When he suddenly turned his neck, the accused tripped and ran away. As the youngsters wearing masks were conversing in Tulu over phone, it was suspected that they could be locals.

On the basis of a complaint made in Bajpe station by Bhoja Bangera, the police investigated and found out the culprits within four days and arrested them.
