Kasargod: Man pays Rs 1.33 lac fine for overspeeding

Kasargod, Feb 11: A youth from Kannur has been levied with a fine of Rs 1.33 lac for driving his car at speeds much above the permitted limit. The man, who drives a SUV, was made to cough up Rs 1.33 lac as fine.

The man in question had been caught by the cameras of the motor vehicles department zooming at high speeds 89 times in a year. He paid Rs 1,33,500 in total by way of fine.

His car met with an accident on Wednesday. When he contacted the insurance company, he came to know about the accumulated fine amount. The motor vehicles department had blacklisted his car for non-payment fine. He could renew the insurance policy only after paying the fine at the regional transport office at Kozhikode.

In January 22, he was seen over speeding seven times. In most of the cases, he drove the car at high speeds on Thrissur-Valayar road as per the camera records.
