Udupi, Feb 13: " A very important meeting over Hijab-Saffron shawl row in colleges ended successfully," said MLA Raghupathi Bhat.

Bhat was addressing media persons after concluding an all organisation meeting over maintaining peace in city colleges in accordance with the interim order of the high court. "However, the Campus Front of India (CFI) which supported Muslim students in Hijab row was absent for the meeting. Leaders of all organization were invited to the meeting. All have positively responded. It has been requested to all not to cause any untoward incidents till the court delivers its verdict," added Bhat.

The court order is applicable to the colleges where there are prescribed uniforms, he clarified adding, "We have asked the student community not to wear Hijab or saffron shawl over their college uniform."

"All organisations must unite to uphold peace in the district. Udupi district is a model. Hence, we convened this peace meeting. We have urged the students to strictly adhere to prescribed uniform. The meeting has been successful in gathering support for peace," said Tahshildar Pradeep Kurdekar.
