Mangalore: Photography Exhibition on Poet Muddanna Begins in City

Mangalore, Jan 2: The city-based Muddana Prakashana held ‘Nandasiri’ photography exhibition at Prasad Art Gallery, Ballalbagh, on Saturday January 1 to commemorate the 140th birth anniversary of Muddana, poet and writer of the 19th century who was born in Nandalike village.
 
The exhibition also marked the decennial celebration of Muddana Prakashana and ‘Muddanotsav’. Mangalore University vice-chancellor Professor T C Shivashankarmurti inaugurated the exhibition.
 
Karnataka Bank Chairman Ananthakrishna presided over the programme. Mangalore Airport director M R Vasudev, Dakshina Kannada Telecom chief general manager Y C Mitra, Walter Nandalike, editor-in-chief, Daijiworld.com, and Manohar Prasad, bureau chief, Udayavani, were the guests of honour.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Walter Nandalike said that with the help of other contemporary thinkers who were on the dais he will make sincere efforts to recuperate the fame of Poet Muddana in international level in the days to come. Other dignitaries also spoke on the occasion.


































Veteran photographer Yajna, critic Dr B Janardhan Bhat, and Muddanotsav honorary president Nandalike Suhas Hegde were the specially invited guests.
 
Udayavani’s former editor Eshwarayya of Kalavihara weekly supplement was felicitated on the occasion. In his acceptance speech, he said that there is a huge difference between photography and snap shots through digital cameras. He recalled the drive of Mohandas Pai of Udayavani who dared to publish photos in newspapers even though those photos did not carry any story or explanation. Eshwarayya added that a photo itself speaks for it does not need any explanation in writing.
 
Vijayalaxmi Nandalike, director, Muddanna Prakashana, started the programme by singing a prayer song. Nandalike Balachandra Rao, honorary director, Muddana Prakashana, welcomed the gathering. Ganesh Somayaji, artist, delivered the vote of thanks.

Shakuntala R Kini of Mangalore Akashavani compered the programme. The exhibition is open for public viewing on Saturday January 1 and Sunday January 2. The photographs of Nandalike Balachandra Rao which focus on the varied dimensions of our culture are showcased in the exhibition
