Moodbidri, Jan 12:
The second day of the week-long 'Alva's Virasat' cultural extravaganza organised in Shobhavana, Mijar here on Wednesday January 12 witnessed splendid thigalbandi by musical maestros Padma Bhushan Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Amaan Ali Khan, Ayaan Ali Khan and Pandith Vijay Ghate on sarod from 6 pm to 8 pm.

There was also a performance by ‘Varnali’ Odissi group under Rudraksha Foundation of Bhubaneshwar from 8.10 pm to 9.45 pm which transported the audience to a world of ecstasy.

The programme began by brothers Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan playing Desha Raga. Padma Bhushan Ustad Amjad Ali Khan later joined them and added his masterly touch to the sarod thigalbandhi.

The sarod was accompanied by the tabla by Pandit Vijay Ghate. After quite a few 'sawaal-jawaabs,' it was truly amazing to hear all the instruments come together for the crescendo. This was really awe-inspiring, with the performers challenging each other with respect to his instrument as well as his capability to play it. Towards the end, all joined together to play the 'Pallavi' of the composition.

The musical fusion totally mesmerized and enthralled the 11,000-plus audience present at the venue, all of who were truly appreciative of the performances and enjoyed the evening to the hilt.

On the sidelines of the day’s programme, chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation Dr Mohan Alva, speaking to presspersons, said that the six-day cultural extravaganza has emerged as an international festival with the participation of foreigners in large numbers.

He said as many as 650 foreigners were part of the audience who relished the essence of the musical cultural prosperity of India. He said that the audience had increased on the second day.
